What type of movie starts out with the epic Ralph Wiggum yelling out the 20th Century Fox theme tune? That right there screams good film, and the movie hasn't even officially started at this point. The film that I'm refering to is the 2007 movie based off of the animated classic know as... THE SIMPSONS MOVIE!!!
Like all of the movies that I give a pretty in-depth review for, I will use the same rating that I have always used:
1> movie's plot really wasn't clear. was boring and lacked good character developement.
2> plot was definately there but was weak. characters were developed but no main characters pointed out.
3> plot is simple but strong. charcters still not developed well. movie flows decent now.
4> plot is developed. movie flows really well. characters still a bit rigid in certain places.
5> all of the above is covered really well.
For the Simpsons Movie based off of this criteria, I felt that it deserved a 4. Personally I didn't think it was "awesome" by my standards (I thought that most of the cartoon minis on TV were funnier). But it did entertain me, and it actually had a very good plot.
This Movie starts out with Green Day playing a concert on top of a barge-stage on Lake Springfield. The hideous band then sinks into the polluted lake and they die. This makes me happy, because I really dislike Green Day. BUT, what that starting scene sets us up for is basically the entire plot. Pollution and cleaning up the environment; that is basically the theme of the movie.
Homer gets a a little pig from Krusty Burger that he falls in love with and plays with it constantly. Well what do pigs do alot of? Yeah, you get the point... So Homer builds a 'Crap Silo' where he stores all of the pig poop. Marge sees the silo in her back yard and told Homer that he needed to get rid of it. So what does the brilliant yellow man do? He dumped his silo into the already very polluted lake, despite the warning signs and barricades.
This put the lake over the edge. It became very toxic and produced weird, morphed animal creatures. The EPA led by Russ Cargill didn't like that one bit. Cargill goes to the President and has him grant the EPA the clearance to drop a huge glass dome over Springfield to control the contaminated city. This causes chaos and panic throught the town, and they all blamed Homer (becuase it was clearly his fault). A mob burns down his house, but his family escapes through a sink hole and fleas to Alaska.
The trapped citizens beat on the dome and Cargill, not wanting news of what he has done to become known, plans to destroy Springfield. In Alaska, the family see a commercial for a new Grand Canyon to be where Springfield is. Marge and the kids decide to go and save the town. Homer doesnt want to help the people who burned down his house, so his family abandons him and leaves but are captured by the EPA and thrown back in the dome. After a visit from a weird shaman dude, Homer has the inevitable epiphany and decides he has to save the town.
Will Homer suceed in saving Springfield? Will the citizens forgive him? What happens next? Why am i asking so many questions? Watch the movie and find out! :)
